Repair Your Broken, Damaged, or Unattractive Teeth

We are passionate about making sure that your teeth are healthy, attractive, and functional. Restorative dental procedures can improve every aspect of your teeth. Your teeth can be healthier, more attractive, and more efficient. To that end, Dr. Sylvia Awadalla and her talented staff proudly offer the following restorative procedures at Smiley Teeth Dental for the community of Saddle Brook, NJ.

  • Tooth-colored, mercury-free fillings

Tooth-colored, mercury-free fillings are the obvious choice to strengthen and repair damaged or decayed teeth. After removing the decayed or damaged section of the tooth, a color-matched composite filling is used to restore your teeth to its original look. This filling is far more durable and lasting than the old silver fillings. Composite fillings are now recommended to repair chipped teeth, to fill spaces between teeth, to repair cracked or broken teeth, or to repair decayed or worn teeth.

  • Inlays

Dental inlays can help reduce the possibility of further tooth decay. These inlays are not only durable, but they are also natural looking. The will strengthen the chewing surface between the edges of your existing teeth. Inlays can repair teeth with large, defective fillings. They are also used to repair teeth damaged by decay or trauma. Inlay treatments will need two dental appointments. The first step is to make an impression (a mold) to manufacture a custom-fit inlay and a temporary tooth (until the inlay is ready). The second appointment is for the purpose of placing your new inlay and adjusting for fit and comfort.

  • Dental Onlays or Partial Crowns

A dental onlay will cover the edges of your teeth. It will also support the sides and surface areas of the affected tooth. An onlay essentially acts as a dental crown. An onlay (often called a partial crown) can fix defective tooth fillings and damaged teeth. The procedure for an onlay is basically identical to the procedure for an inlay. The first appointment is for developing an impression of the affected area and placing a temporary onlay. The permanent onlay is custom-made and placed during the second appointment.

Both inlays and onlays are longer-lasting than standard fillings. They are also more cost effective than dental crowns.

  • Dental Crowns

Natural-looking dental crowns can re-shape, repair, or re-align your damaged teeth. A crown is different than an inlay/onlay in that it will cover the entire surface of the restored tooth. A crown covers and strengthens damaged teeth in a way that a dental filling cannot. A dental crown will be used to repair a tooth that has been broken, fractured, or decayed. It is also helpful in enhancing the natural appearance of the tooth. Crowns are also used to cover a tooth with a large filling or a tooth that has received a root canal treatment.

Once again, a crown treatment will generally involve two steps. At the first appointment, the tooth surface is prepared, an impression is taken from which to manufacture the custom-fit crown, and a temporary crown is applied. At the second appointment, the temporary crown is removed, the tooth is cleaned, and the permanent, custom-fit crown is placed.

  • Cosmetic Porcelain Crowns (Metal-Free)

Metal-free, porcelain dental crowns can be used to strengthen and protect damaged or decayed teeth. A customized crown will be created to match your tooth for color, shape, and size. Porcelain crowns are the most popular treatment when it comes to crowns. While they are strong and durable, they are also the most natural looking crowns. The result is a beautiful, natural looking smile.

The process is similar to the process for standard dental crowns. At the original appointment, the tooth’s surface is prepared, an impression is taken, and a temporary crown is placed. At the follow-up appointment, the tooth is cleaned again before the new, custom-made porcelain crown is placed and adjusted.

  • Removable Prostheses

Removable prostheses are commonly known as dentures. Many folks find their confidence and appearance improved with a removable denture. These are dental appliances that replace missing teeth and the surrounding tissue. Dentures are manufactured from long-lasting porcelain and acrylic resin. They are made to resemble the color and look of natural teeth.

Dentures can come in several options. There are full dentures, partial dentures, and implant-supported dentures. Dentures will provide an anchor for surrounding natural teeth, they will prevent movement of natural teeth, and they will enable you to speak and eat confidently.

Denture treatment will involve multiple appointments depending on the situation of each patient. Dr. Sylvia Awadalla will want to ensure that the dentures are properly fit and adjusted. Additional follow-up appointments will be used to customize shape and color. There will also need to be minor adjustments for comfort and appearance once the dentures have been placed.

  • Full Mouth Reconstruction

In some cases, a full mouth reconstruction may be necessary to provide the best oral health situation. This type of reconstructive care can treat gum disease, tooth decay, and mouth pain. Dr. Sylvia Awadalla will diagnose your situation and suggest a treatment plan. She will recommend which reconstructive procedures will best accomplish your goals. She will use a combination of dental fillings, veneers, crowns, dental implants, dentures, and other procedures.

You can improve your oral health and build a beautiful smile with straighter, stronger, healthier teeth. A full mouth reconstruction can provide dramatic transformation in your appearance. It can also offer an expanded menu for you and full appreciation of your eating experience.

Dr. Sylvia Awadalla can also provide restorative treatment through Implant Supported Prostheses and Fixed Prostheses (Bridges).
